Genre Day

This morning we went straight to P.E.  We got to do free choice on the playground because it was so nice out, and Carly played on the bars.  Next we did Math and we were practicing our Jumping Numbers strategy and Omega thought it wasn't very easy.  Next we learned about some more reading genres.  We learned about Mysteries and Fantasy books.  Amber Judy thinks she might want to try a mystery book.  Next we put our Reading List in our Reading Journals.  Our Reading List is place to keep track of all the books we read this year.  Starry Star 33 is reading Invisible Stanley.  After lunch we did Read Aloud.  Danny went to school and was always reading the sign over the door.  Also he had the meanest teacher in the school.  Don't forget to collect pledges for the Jog-a-Thon!  It's on Friday!!

Tuesday

Today Ms. K was back!  We started out the morning with Math and are practicing using our Jumping Numbers strategy on a Number Line.  Next we did a little catch up since Ms. K was gone for two days and there were things we needed to talk about as a class.  After snack we did Reading Workshop and learned a little bit about our Reading Journals.  After lunch we did Read Aloud and Danny and his dad have a plan to catch all of Mr. Victor Hazel's pheasants so that there will be none to hunt when his big shooting party comes.  After Read Aloud we did P.E., then recess, then BUDDIES!  We will be buddies with Ms. S's 1st grade class and we are so excited.  Today we met our buddies for the first time, and did a fun get to know you activity that will be hanging in the hall for Open House next week.  After that it was time to pack up and go home.  Ms. Bunny M was our photographer today and she thought everyone would like to see the faces we made of ourselves the second week of school.  Two people were catching up on this project; Nadia and Razorback, so their faces are not included in the pictures, but will be hanging on the wall soon!

Friday and Monday

Ms. K was out of town on Friday and Monday, so Ms. N was our guest teacher.  On Friday we did 3rd grade art with all the other 3rd graders.  On Monday we had Music and did Read to Self.  Here are some pictures from those two days..........

PE Day

Today we continued doing our Math Review and because we are getting better at math most people finished quickly.  Flying Shoe was one of the first ones finished.  Next we worked on filling out posters about Room 9 Expectations.  We worked in groups and Amber Judy worked on the Arrival and Wrap up poster.  One thing that group added to their poster was, "Don't forget your lunchbox."  In Reading Workshop we learned about a new type of book called Historical Fiction. These types of books are about places from the past, but the characters are made up.  Horse Girl is looking forward to reading the American Girl series.  In Danny the Champion the World Danny drove the Baby Austin to find his dad and he almost got caught by the police.  Pee Wee and Kcorb can't wait to read more!  In P.E. today we played basketball and Ash enjoyed dribbling the ball.  At the end of the day we did science and we did a pencil sketch.  Omega learned that different pencils have different writing on them.  Our class photographer was Gymnasics Suit.  Here are some of his pictures......

Wednesday

Today went by so fast!  Room 9 started the day in P.E. and then before we knew it lunch was upon us.  After lunch we did Read Aloud and found out that Danny's dad has been sneaking away in the night to poach pheasants!  Some of us are still not sure how we feel about that choice, but I think most of us think it is not a good one at this point.  We might change our minds as we read more though!  We also had our first class photographer today, Ash.  Below are some of the pictures he took.  Soon we will be adding "tags" to each photo.  Enjoy!

JOG-A-THON!!

Lap Counters Needed!  -- Jog-A-Thon 2011-12

We are looking for volunteers to count laps for our class at the upcoming Jog-A-Thon.  Our class will be jogging on Friday the 30th of September from 9:30-10:15am.  Volunteers should arrive at the track on the playfield about 15 minutes early to get set up.  If you can help, please email Ms. K and let her know that you can help.  She will pass the information along to the SBEA.

Thank you for supporting the S.B. jog-a-thon!!

Terrific Tuesday

Today was another great day in Room 9!  We got some of our school supplies that we will keep in our desk, and did more Read to Self time.  Today in our Read Aloud book, Danny the Champion of the World, we found out that Danny's dad has been keeping a deep, dark secret from him, but we don't know yet what the secret is.  It is very suspensful!  At the end of the day we had our first day of P.E., and it was so fun!!  Tomorrow morning we have P.E. again and we will go straight there instead of going to our classroom.  Ms. K will pick us up at the gym at 9:10 after P.E. is over, and then we will head to our classroom to unpack.  Also remember that tomorrow is the first of our Wednesday early release days.  Students will be leaving school at 1:15.

Fine, Fine Room 9

Today was a great first Monday of school!  We started the day with Math Review, which we will do every morning, and students got to use the Activeboard for the first time to show their thinking.  Next we talked a little about the Silver Beach Expectations, and what it means to be Respectful around the school.  This morning we also did Reading Workshop.  We learned about the 3 ways to read a book: read the words, read the pictures, and retell the story (we actually only learned about the first two and will talk about the third tomorrow).  Then we did Read to Self (independent reading) for 3 minutes.  It seemed very short, but we were all able to be successful for that amount of time!  After lunch and recess we continued reading Danny, the Champion of the World and in the chapter we read today Danny and his dad made a kite and a fire balloon together.  Then we went to our first music.  We had fun singing and playing with the rhythm sticks!  At the end of the day we learned about a new Thinking Map called a Bubble Map, and came up with fake names for our blog, which Ms. Kalstad will be posting this afternoon.  Another great day in Room 9!!

First Day of a New Year!!

Today was the first day of school and we made new friends.  We also learned new things.  We started the day with an assembly, and our new principal, Mrs. T, read us a story.  Some people played Flyer's Up at recess.  Other people learned new things at recess, like jumping up to the high bar.  In class, we learned about a Cirlce Map and we filled it in about ourselves.  Today we also started a Read Aloud book called Danny, the Champion of the World.  We got to draw pictures while we listened to the story.  In Room 9 we work as a TEAM, and we earn points.  Today we earned A LOT of them (27, to be exact)!  We had a great first day of school!
